Rachel of Floral Prints and Common Sense

Hey there! I'm Rachel from Floral Prints and Common Sense, and I'm really excited to be a part of Flock Together! I'm an Illustration major living and going to school in South Carolina. People here love their sweet tea. Here's something I drew once!
And here are some things I wear!

My style is vintage inspired, and I buy most of my clothes at Goodwill. Never underestimate a good dollar rack! Thrifting is one of my favorite things to do because it's like treasure hunting. For clothes.
When I'm not in school, I do a lot of crafting and clothes-making and drawing and spending time with my cat, family, and boyfriend. I'm looking forward to being a part of this lovely group of ladies and remixing clothes with them!

Polka, polka

Hello, Jessica from Midwest Muse here. Today, I'm mixing up Ashely of Southern {California} Belle's beautiful polka dot skirt. I love how she made it fancy and summery while I took a more casual and non-traditional route. This worked so well as a dress that I almost wished it was a dress. I didn't realize until I took another look at Ashley's photos that we both paired it with red. This beige demands red accents.

Don't worry, you'll see this skirt several more times as I think it's one of the pieces everyone in the group wants.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Hi Guys! Hannah from The Braided Bandit here.  I am so excited to share with you my first outfit remix! I got this beautiful dress from the lovely Elana of Room 334 as a surprise in the mail.  It has the most beautiful warm colors and fun paisley floral print.  I immediately knew I wanted to try a Free People-esque bohemian look with it by adding this vintage white slip underneath and messy braids.  Of course, the weather in Colorado turned pretty chilly immediately after I received the dress, which is where the lace up boots and sweater came into play.  I really liked that this was actually a style challenge for me, as one of the main points of this group is going outside of your typical style boundaries and putting your own twist on a specific piece of clothing!

Outfit Details: Dress: American Vintage via Elana; Necklace: Vintage/ Gift; Sweater, Boots & Slip: Vintage/ Thrifted; Bracelet: InPink.

Check out how Elana wore it here! She is just too cute!

Almost the whole entire outfit I chose to style around my swap piece was either vintage, thrifted, or both! The bracelet set I picked out from an online jewelry retailer InPink after winning a gift card from a giveaway.  This field is one of my favorite photo taking locations as there are usually not any people around.  These were snapped right after the sun had disappeared behind the mountains, leaving a lingering warm glow behind in the sky.
I had so much fun styling this piece, thank you Elana! Thanks for stopping by Flock Together, I hope you all are having an amazing start to you week!

Behind the Buildings (Swap)

It’s my first swap post – yay! Elana may be regretting having offered up this dress (seen here) because she won’t see it for a little while with so many of us requesting it, but we’re all pretty thrilled! I feel like I don’t actually own any cute cardis or blazers (like Elana & Jessica), so I went with a pretty simple look, making it slightly more “fall-themed” with my green tights. I am so happy to take the tights out of hibernation, it sure is fun spicing up an outfit with them! Now I’ve just got to dig out a few sweaters and get on top of this layering thing. DSCN7263 DSCN72753.5 I'm trying to show off my favorite earrings I never wear and realized you can see a bit of my bald spot. The earrings are from when we went to Taxco to buy the $5 wedding bands we wear daily to this day, and the bald spots (one on each side) of course have been with me for some time longer and sometimes make bang-less buns a bit odd-looking. I suppose I'd only be a quick, few-quick, photoshop process, unlike this elaborate masterpiece, but that'd be too sneaky and I already have one confession... Untitled-4 DSCN7266 Confession: Elana’s dress did not fit me at all… it’s actually only zipped up about halfway in the back. You can tell the collar doesn’t connect in the back in the close-ups, but my guess was that if I wouldn’t have mentioned it you wouldn’t have noticed. Would you have? Sure I could have put something over it, but I just decided to not show you the back because I’m sneaky like that. Yep that's right friends, don't trust your children with me and definitely not your pets... Really though, this pattern totally rocks, the little collar/cut is great and the color is perfect and one I don't think I've ever worn, so why not pretend and play dress up? This is certainly how I would have worn it out and about were it my size. Here's how Elana and Jessica wore it - both such little cuties (who actually fit it : )! Untitled-1 So I just may have to go thrifting (again) this weekend with hopes of scoring some neutrals after this dress! I hope you enjoy your weekends everyone, we're rejoicing in the cool air with windows wide open over here and dreaming up an afternoon hike : ).
thx

A Polka Dot Frock

Hi everyone, Elana here from Room 334! I'm starting to think Flock Together is a bad idea. Sure, the chance to collaborate with some of my favorite bloggers is wonderful, but there's no worse feeling than wearing a perfect dress and knowing that it will soon be out of your grasp.

When I opened up this dress from Ashley, it was love at first sight. I'm no stranger to polka dots, but despite my promise to myself to try to borrow clothes that were different for me, or a challenge, I couldn't resist asking to borrow this one. It's everything I think a dress should be; it's the perfect length, it's trimmed with lace, it has subtle (but gorgeous) details, it has the most flattering shape, it's navy, and, most importantly, it's covered in polka dots.

I have to admit, it had been awhile since I had looked at how Ashley had style it, so if the styling looks slightly similar, I swear it was completely by coincidence.

Dress: Zara, via Ashley; Necklace: Ebay; Belt: H&M; Boots: Cathy Jean; Tights: Target

The day I wore this was one of those weird weather days, where it couldn't decide if it was hot or cold so I opted for colored tights and bare arms. I hadn't worn these boots in forever, which I hear is a punishable crime in some countries, but I loved pairing a light color shoe with the navy dress.

Check out how Ashley styled it:

I love the peep-toe heels and minimal accessories she paired with it, it all complements the dress so well. You can find her whole post here for more details on her outfit and the dress!

Floral Swap

Hi everyone!  I'm Ashley from Southern (California) Belle and I'm here to show you how I styled a skirt from Kristian over at Never Fully Dressed (Without A Style).  This skirt was actually a pleasant surprise because not only did I not know what I was getting for my first swap, but it was actually something I would wear on a regular basis.  Kristian has such great style and I'm not surprised she picked something that I would like so much.  The only problem?  Having to give it back!

And here is how Kristian styled it:

I chose to wear a chambray shirt because I think it really brought out the blue in the skirt.  I love how Kristian wore a red blazer though.  And her belt is fantastic!  For Kristian's outfit info make sure and check out her original blog post here.

The Holy City

Untitled

Hello! This is Kristian of Never Fully Dressed (Without a Style), and I'm so excited to share another swap/remix with you all! The lovely Dus, of Cuddly Cacti not only let me borrow, but gifted this fun, red skirt to me. Above she styled it for winter (Psst! You can find out more in this post of hers!), so below is a more autumnal take on the skirt to share with you.

The bold color of the skirt seemed to enliven a really grey day. Could have taken a note out of Dus' book and paired this with a sweater actually- those are snow clouds in the background! Still, the short-sleeved equally-bright yellow shirt seemed like a good "good-bye to fall." The brown belt and moccasins also have a fall-like feeling, perfect for rambling about in the great outdoors.

We wandered up to the Holy City on the highway towards Yellowstone. Teddy Roosevelt called it the most beautiful highway in America, though you couldn't really tell that with all the clouds! Still, though it doesn't look like much in the photos, these unusual rock formations are quite the sight; they are so-called because the silhouette matches that of Old Jerusalem.

Out of this Galaxy

It's Marisa from Shades of Monet Chronicles here.  Oh where do I begin...this skirt, yes this skirt.  Let me just tell you that this galaxy skirt made my heart skip one ginormous beat when I first saw Jessica of Midwest Muse don it so dashingly on her blog.  It's just one of those pieces that is eye catching-ly, out of this galaxy...ok ok, pun intended.  Naturally I was pleased as punch when I saw Jessica put the piece up for swaps.

She styled it up pretty darn awesome-sauce if you ask me - the bow, the red shoes - yes, the whole darn ensemble had me from hello - so much that I pinned it on my Pinterest board right away.  Now how in the world could I ever do this little beauty justice like she so perfectly did?

I kind of adored how the print & colors lent themselves so perfectly to the season.  As in true fall fashion, the weather was rainy and chilly, so layers were the way to go.  A blazer with structured shoulders and velvety green shoes dressed it up a tad - but the striped t-shirt, floral crown & mustard tights made it a little more playful and a lot more comfortable for me to wear out.

Thanks so much for reading along with me here on this Monday morning.  See you around soon!

Love Bunches,
