What I Wore: Dress (via Elana of Room 334), Shirt (Paris Boutique), Necklace (Popbasic), Shoes (Minnetonka)

Shimmery, shiny and with polka dots to boot? Who could resist this gorgeous dress from Elana. Not me for sure! Here's the thing though: this is fancy. Now, I love fancy. I love pretty. But, if you ever read my blog Never Fully Dressed (Without a Style) then you might already realize what the issue might be. It's Wyoming; we don't see much call for fancy clothes where I'm from (No. Seriously. Our local paper just ran an op-ed. calling out a woman for wearing nylons. Gasp! "Clean is Good Enough" was the headline). So when Elana made a passing comment about not being sure how to dress it down...well, Challenge Accepted.

This is still a little fancy. I mean, there's no nylons, but it is a golden dress. But after taking a leaf out of Elana's book and just tying a shirt over it, this fancy look does casual too.

P. S. For a little remix compare and contrasting fun, see how she dresses this baby up to sparkle and shine!

  1. Great post!! I love the way you knotted the button down over it, definitely makes it a bit more casual, and still so stylish. Looking good ladies!

  2. Kristian, I LOVE this! I especially love that you took the challenge of dressing it down since I said I was struggling with it. I think you did an amazing job! This top over it is perfect. Definitely getting some good inspiration :)

  4. Haha what a funny little story Kristian!! That is crazy about the op-ed calling out nylons, I’d think they’d get a lot of use over in Wyoming w/ the colder weather. I LOVE your take on Elana’s dress though, fancy meets casual; perfectly you, and a perfect way to wear it on a more “every day.” I saw Elana’s comment as well and I had zero ideas on how to dress it down, nicely done!

    1. Well, the writer of the op-ed piece seemed to feel dresses in general are not Wyoming-ish. Jeans and shirt. Add a bolero if you wanted to get super fancy, like if you were meeting a senator or president (her examples of important events). Pretty sure she's a rancher. its just a strong cowboy culture which is both wonderful and frustrating sometimes, lol.

  6. The shirt and moccasins definitely do dress it down a little more but you can't truly make a sparkling gold dress casual and that's ok :) You look beautiful! I love your hair like this and that necklace is so lovely with this dress. Love Elana's fancier look too! Perfect for the Holidays.
