Paper Hero

I've been looking forward to posting this! The photos are from a while ago and I've since chopped off my hair, but I'm happy I finally get to share it with you. It's one of my all-time favorite Flock Together dresses. A huge thanks goes out to the lovely Sammi for lending it to us.

One of my co-workers at my last job actually had this dress, and I was so jealous because I just loved the fun print. It has a retro comic book inspired design featuring a woman sewing (one of my hobbies, actually) and accompanying cheeky captions. It also has an open back and a great silhouette. It's sold out (aww), but the designer, Folter, has a few newer styles with similar prints (here and here).

I styled it with a tan belt, a bright coral red lipstick (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in "Harlot"--seriously amazing; opaque and long-lasting!), black tights, red ballet flats, and of course, my crazy 2D Jump From Paper bag. It only seemed fitting.

I like how Sammi's bold cobalt blue shoes go with the bright colors in the dress, as well as Hannah's classic take with black tights, Jenna's styling for winter, and Katie's vintage-inspired look. Be sure to visit their posts (links are under their respective photos) for more photos and details of what their wearing.

A Little Red Dress

There's something so amazing about a little red dress, that really sets it apart from any other piece in a wardrobe. Not only is it an incredibly sexy colour but it happens to be a fantastic campaign started by the Heart and Stroke foundation to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease in women! A very worthy cause and perfect to coincide with Valentines Day tomorrow where we're thinking about matters of the heart ;)
I decided to do a little remix of all my favourite LRD's. While they are stunning on their own and can really make a statement it's such an easy shade to mix up for more casual occasions. A red dress can be sexy, simple and very badass when accessorized the right way, and it is my personal belief that every girl needs a LRD in their closet :)

Cabernet sauvignon

Hi, everyone!  It's Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette, and today I'm wearing an in-demand swap from the beautiful Jenna of Smitten.  I'd been impatiently waiting for this deep red velvet number (with its gorgeous low back!) to arrive, and I finally got the chance to wear it for a night out at the theatre.  I went to see the touring production of Rock of Ages when it came to Rochester (a college friend was in the cast) and then out for a friend's birthday, so I thought this ensemble would work nicely for the occasion.  It has more of a grunge-bohemian feel than I normally go for, but I really loved this slight deviation from my ultra-girly style.  I even got a chance to wear my Steve Madden combat boots, which often sit in my closet for months on end (even though I love them)!
Outfit Details:
Red velvet dress: swap from Jenna
Boots: Steve Madden (gift)
Belt: from another dress
Quote ring: ModCloth
Hat: Target
Tights: old
I just realized that I'm not the only one who opted for a slouchy hat/boots combination with this dress!  Jessi took a similar approach, and I love her floral print boots with it!  Ashley dressed this number down in a beautiful fashion, too.  I loved Marisa's floral crown and bright peacock feather tights, and of course, Jenna's faux fur collar is divine!
Thanks so much to Jenna for allowing me to wear this luxe little number!  It was the perfect dress for my evening out, and it's ideal for February!  And speaking of February, I just celebrated my 1-year blogiversary over at The Soubrette Brunette, and I'm holding a great big giveaway to celebrate!  You can get all the details and enter to win (prizes include a gift certificate to ModCloth and a bunch of other goodies!) here.  Sorry for the personal plug, and have a terrific Tuesday!  :)

off the record

Hey everyone! It's Lisa from Lala Faux Bois wearing a dress I borrowed from Jenna recently. The black and white pinstripes are hard to see in the pictures, but they give this shirt dress an extra fun punch. My first instinct when wearing black and white is to load on colorful layers. Instead I decided to play with another black and white classic- the polka dot, and just add some color with the socks.

This awesome bag was a gift from my bestie who always finds me such unique, handmade gifts! The top was in a giant bag of clothes I inherited from a friend who recently moved to NYC for design school. Her paring down her closet was a win for me, I'd say ;)

dress: borrowed from Jenna // top: friend hand-me-down // record purse: gift from my bestie // socks: Nordstrom Last Chance // shoes: BC

As always, it's fun to see how the other ladies styled it, and it seems like we've covered all the seasons :) Hope your week is off to a great start!

Secret Santa

This past Christmas all of us here at Flock Together took part in a Secret Santa gift exchange. Here's the spoils of that! Thank you all who participated!

Jenna of Smitten

I was ecstatic when I received my package from Erica for our Secret Santa gift exchange. This is such a great group to be a part of, and I am so thankful for these sweet ladies. Erica picked an amazing piece for me, I love the print on it, it's a kind of camo but in a super girly fit and flare dress that has side cut outs! It's like this dress was made for me, I love anything that combines something feminine with a bit of edge!!

Lisa of Lala Faux Bois

I was so excited to receive my package from Dus! She spoiled me with this cute bow print skirt, 2 other skirts, and a pair of blue cords! I tore right into the box and forgot to take a pic of everything, but trust me- it's good stuff ;) I have really loved these past few months being a part of Flock Together, everyone has been so welcoming! A big thank you to Dus for this skirt- I love novelty prints!

Ashley of Southern (California) Belle

Jessica of Midwest Muse was my Secret Santa this year and I was quite delighted by her gifts.  Not only did she pick out this gorgeous emerald lace dress, but she sent a cute hairbow and a nautical printed blouse as well.  I was more than happy to receive a gift from her because she truly knows my style.  I'm a lucky gal!

 Hannah of The Braided Bandit

I must be one lucky gal because Amy of A. Loo's Closet was my Secret Santa this year and she spoiled me with this amazing vintage dress!  It has an absolutely beautiful cute, the perfect fit, sheer sleeves, and gorgeous floral embroidering.  For a blogger friend who I only really "met" a few months ago, she nailed my style to a T! Thanks so much Amy!

Jen of JennifHsieh

There's nothing I love more than a Secret Santa exchange and this year I was super lucky to have the beautiful Ashley as my gifter. I absolutely adore the way she always has fun rocking feminine looks so I was more than happy to welcome this mint, lace dress into my closet. I usually gravitate towards neutrals or darker colors, but mint has always secretly been on my wish list. How did she know? I'm not entirely sure. Oh, and can we talk about the wrapping? I almost didn't want to rip it open to it would all stay intact. Thanks a million, Ashley! :)

This year my Secret Santa was none other than the loverly Kristian, who certainly must have known I'm quite the sucker for anything colorful and vintage, because she gifted me the prettiest lemony yellow cardi care of the 1960s.  Better yet, check out the oversized creamsicle plaid pockets on this little darling - yes, they are perfect, just like the snowflake laced wrapping was.  Definitely the most cheerful gift to come home to on a grey winter day.  Thanks bunches Kristian!

I absolutely jumped at the chance to be part of a Secret Santa gift exchange with the lovely ladies of Flock Together! I mean, who could ask for a group of more stylish ladies than the ones above? I was lucky enough to have Lisa as my gifter this year and received not one, but TWO perfect treasures! She sent me this darling brown, polka dot, pussy bow blouse along with a stylish blue and yellow paisley headscarf. What could be more quintessential to my style than those two things I ask you? They even paired wonderfully together as an outfit. I am one lucky lady :) Not to mention the wrapping paper has the cutest penguins on it. Since I am slightly head-over-heels for penguins I'd say it made my day pretty happy. Thanks ever so much Lisa! I even wore the blouse again in this post on my blog too!

Elana of Room 334

Before I even opened the packaged, I was over the moon when I realized that Jenna was my Secret Santa. Granted, I love all of the girls' style and I can't imagine being disappointed by any of them, but still. I always want to steal every single thing Jenna wears, so I knew that she had to pick out something amazing for me, and man, she did not disappoint. I love just about anything striped, but this dress is particularly special. It's just the right amount of sweet, unique, and versatile. I'd be lying if I said that I hadn't already worn this multiple times since I got it not that long ago.

I had so much fun doing Secret Santa last year that I was really looking forward to exchanging gifts this holiday--especially since we had a few new members in the mix. I received this darling and daring dress from the gorgeous Jessi! The sheer panels in the front and back allow me to experiment with layering girly lingerie pieces underneath (I'm wearing a lace bustier from Forever 21 in the photo above). It's hard to tell in the photo, but it also has a cute embossed pattern throughout. I admire Jessi's feminine and relatable style (and her amazing hair!), so I felt lucky to have her as my Santa. Thank you so much, Jessi!
Jessica of Midwest Muse I had Jen as my santa and omigod, is she wonderful or what?! This dress is perfect. The colors are spot on and cozy. Plus she drew little tiny versions of me. I mean, how did I get so lucky? The best part about a Flock Together Secret Santa is that there's no way any of us are ending up with less than perfect dresses.
