Checkmate

Morning!  Long time no post.  It's Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette, and today I'm posting a little remix of Elana's awesome black + white checked dress.  I tend to borrow a ton of clothes from Elana, and I always end up loving everything she sends my way.  I wanted to try this particular dress because although I really like it on other people, it isn't a piece that I'd normally pick out for myself.  I don't have a ton of plain dresses (which can be problematic sometimes!), and although this has a distinctive pattern, if I've learned anything from What Not To Wear, it's that a pattern like this can definitely act as a neutral!

I also decided to take a page out of Marisa's book and pair this dress with some funky colored tights.  I didn't end up wearing a cardigan for these photos, but I think a red sweater would look really fun with this ensemble, too.  Since this dress is both structured and comfy, it can be dressed up or down, which always comes in handy.

Elana put this dress up for swaps pretty recently, so none of the other girls have had a chance to style it yet, but I love how Elana styled it with a sweet bow belt and a pop of blue from her shoes!  This dress would lend itself well to so many different stylings, so I can't wait to see how the other girls wear it in the future!  How would you wear Elana's plaid dress?

Versatility

What do you do when an adorable dress ends up being an awkward length on you? If you're me, you throw a skirt over it and hope that it'll maybe, somehow work. Hi, if you haven't figured it out yet, it's Elana from Room 334 here, and I'm showing you how I styled this plaid perfection of a dress that Sammi let me borrow. 

It's no secret that I love wearing dresses as tops. It instantly doubles your wardrobe, and as someone who doesn't buy a ton of tops in general, it helps me make good use of my skirt collection. This bright plaid has such a great vintage vibe to it, that I figured it only made sense to pair it with a vintage skirt and thrifted slingbacks. I added this equally colorful necklace that my friend made as a finishing touch and ended up with pretty fun, classy look if I say so myself. Who knew a statement dress like this could be so versatile?

Of course, no one styles flirty dresses better than Sammi. Her summer look is perfection to me, and I can't get over how well the boater hat pairs it. As usual, I'm envious of everything she wears.

Saffron & Cinnamon

Good morning, Flock Together readers!  It's Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette, and today I'm styling this fantastic vintage dress from Katie!  It definitely feels like fall here, and this outfit made me feel both collegiate and cozy.

This is a slightly different silhouette from what I normally wear, and the color isn't one that I usually gravitate towards, either; yellow can be really tricky on me, but I actually really loved the way this turned out.  And isn't the front pocket adorable?  I initially thought about wearing a blouse underneath this dress, but it just didn't look right, so I opted to layer this little jacket over it instead.  This soft brown blazer was a very lucky Goodwill thrifting find, and I love getting to bring it out of my closet in the fall!

I absolutely adore how Katie styled this dress -- she looks so chic in her headscarf and sunglasses, and I love the gloves and handbag!  It's hard not to style this dress with vintage flair, but it actually turned out to be a pretty versatile dress.  I guess it could be called a classic!  How would you like to style this frock?

Good morning, friends!

I borrowed this darling strawberry-printed blouse from Sammi over the weekend, and while I initially wanted to go with a sweet, vintage look, we had quite the week at our house that changed my tune. After a week of very little sleep and kicking my kids' colds' butts, I felt like breaking out the tough-girl style, and I really like how it turned out.

I love those days where the outfit seems to create itself without any effort at all. This was definitely one of those days and one for the books. I'm sure I'll be reaching for this style many more times this fall.

Le Tour de Flock

I'm here with another remix of Marisa's fun bicycle print dress. This dress has been on it's own version of the Tour de France, pedaling it's way around the US for us Flock Together gals to put our own spin on. But with a print this good, it's bound to make it's way around, and hopefully Marisa didn't miss it too much this summer!

It's just now becoming comfortable bicycle weather in Phoenix, and when I borrowed this back in August it was definitely a little hot for a ride around the neighborhood. But when your bike matches the dress, you dig deep for your inner athlete, no matter how far that side may be buried :)

Hot Wheels

Why, hello there. It's Elana from Room 334 here today, and I'm sharing my deep, deep love of Marisa's bicycle dress with you. You know those pieces that you lust after to the point of obsession, but just never end up buying? That's this dress for me. How could it not be? I fell in love with it the moment all of my favorite stores started stocking it and I noticed that there were puppies sitting in the baskets of some of the bicycles in the print. It's basically perfect. Unfortunately, the stars have never aligned (and by that, I mean that I've never been able to justify the purchase), and I've never been able to make the dress mine. Instead, I got to borrow it from the lovely Marisa and see how even more perfect it is for a limited amount of time. Seriously, you guys, it's perfect. The print, the silhouette, the...everything. 

I wore it a couple weeks ago when my brother was in town visiting to see my other brother's new baby and then to get gelato and drinks with a couple of our friends. It was a pretty relaxed day, so I went pretty casual with a denim jacket (that it was probably too warm to be wearing) and some oxfords. I'm a little sad because I took these photos on a different day from when I originally wore this, and I couldn't find the necklace that I had I worn with it. It was a plane necklace, and I thought I was being pretty funny (as usual) by wearing a plane necklace with a bicycle dress. Get it?

Once upon a time

Good morning!  I feel like it's been quite a while since I posted here!  It's Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette, and I'm pleased as punch to be styling Amy's gorgeous rose print dress today.  This dress made me feel as pretty as a princess, and the print paired so well with my little book clutch that it got me thinking about fairytales, and just how many of them involve roses!  Growing up, one of my favorites was the story of Snow-White and Rose-Red (not to be confused with the more popular character of Snow White).  And of course, roses are a big part of Beauty and the Beast.  Briar Rose is the basis for the story of Sleeping Beauty, and though not technically a fairytale, the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland demands that her roses be red.  This dress just seems perfectly suited for a storybook life!
