Modern Beatnik

Marisa of The Shades of Monet Chronicles

Why hello there!

It's Marisa here excited to be back to remixing with the Flock Together ladies once again.  Today I'm bringing you a swap from Katie that has me feeling just a tad bit beatnik.  It must be the stripes and the beret, but whatever it is all I know that I was just loving up this wee vintage striped t-shirt that Katie sent my way.  Being more of a dress-wearing kind of gal myself, it made me realize that I need...er, want more casual separates like this in my wardrobe because they are just so easy and comfortable to wear.

This piece has certainly made it's way around the group.  Each of the gals' have really put their own unique spin on it and I honestly love them all.  It's funny because I nearly ended up styling it the exact same way as Katie did until I noticed her photo - vintage turquoisey-green skirt, navy hat, brown purse, white open toed shoes...haha, great minds think alike perhaps.

So with that I wish you one happy spring!  It's beginning to warm up a tad here on my mountainside, but I am really looking forward to all the springtime blooms!

Until next time!

Between Me and You

Happy Friday!  Can you believe it's already the end of February?  This year is already flying by...  It's Ashley of Southern (California) Belle and I couldn't wait to post this swap with Jen.  I love her style and I love wearing green, so I guess it was meant to be.  I decided to go all out and pair yellow with her green dress.  I'm no stranger to color and had a lot of fun putting this outfit together.

I love how Jen styled this dress for summer.  She also makes me want to go out and buy a jean jacket.  How do I not own one of those?  She looks effortlessly chic!  To see the details on her outfit, click on the picture above.
I had to add a few pictures of Bianca to the mix.  She was being particularly fussy that day and refused to be put down.  I'm stll learning how to juggle photography and mommy duties.  Plus, a couple of cute pictures couldn't hurt :)

The Polka Dot Army

Gap Utility Jacket (similar) | Polka Dot Dress borrowed from Elana (similar) | Aldo Black Oxford Wedges (similar)

Polka dots will never go out of style. I'm pretty certain of it. If the day should ever come when it's deemed "uncool", I will straight up protest. I borrowed this dress from Elana and I'm absolutely in love with it. It had such a romantic silhouette so I decided to toughen it up a bit with this jacket before I found myself sitting in my arm chair with a chick flick and buckets of chocolate.

Actually, that sounds really nice. Guess I know how I'll be spending my evening after work today...

Little Talks

Erica of Sweets and Hearts

I may not be the best person to get winter fashion ideas from (it's been in the 70s and 80s lately). I've mostly been sticking to light sweaters and tights. Luckily, this vintage striped tee from Katie works perfectly for the weather we've been having.

I wore it with a chambray skirt, over-the-knee socks, lace-up ankle boots, and my new wide brim cloche hat from Forever 21. The custom name necklace is from oNecklace (cute, huh? I've always wanted one).

Guest appearance from my dog, Bojangles.
He likes following me around when I take outfit photos.

The tee itself is a bit on the plain side, but I think we were all able to add our own little touches to personalize it (all skirts, too). Katie creatively added bright hues and cute accessories to her outfit. I love Hannah's pinafore and casual vibe, as well as Jen's twirly polka-dotted skirt (my personal favorite!).

How would you style the tee?
Hope you have a great week!

Secret Santa

This past Christmas all of us here at Flock Together took part in a Secret Santa gift exchange. Here's the spoils of that! Thank you all who participated!

Jenna of Smitten

I was ecstatic when I received my package from Erica for our Secret Santa gift exchange. This is such a great group to be a part of, and I am so thankful for these sweet ladies. Erica picked an amazing piece for me, I love the print on it, it's a kind of camo but in a super girly fit and flare dress that has side cut outs! It's like this dress was made for me, I love anything that combines something feminine with a bit of edge!!

Lisa of Lala Faux Bois

I was so excited to receive my package from Dus! She spoiled me with this cute bow print skirt, 2 other skirts, and a pair of blue cords! I tore right into the box and forgot to take a pic of everything, but trust me- it's good stuff ;) I have really loved these past few months being a part of Flock Together, everyone has been so welcoming! A big thank you to Dus for this skirt- I love novelty prints!

Jessica of Midwest Muse was my Secret Santa this year and I was quite delighted by her gifts.  Not only did she pick out this gorgeous emerald lace dress, but she sent a cute hairbow and a nautical printed blouse as well.  I was more than happy to receive a gift from her because she truly knows my style.  I'm a lucky gal!

 Hannah of The Braided Bandit

I must be one lucky gal because Amy of A. Loo's Closet was my Secret Santa this year and she spoiled me with this amazing vintage dress!  It has an absolutely beautiful cute, the perfect fit, sheer sleeves, and gorgeous floral embroidering.  For a blogger friend who I only really "met" a few months ago, she nailed my style to a T! Thanks so much Amy!

Jen of JennifHsieh

There's nothing I love more than a Secret Santa exchange and this year I was super lucky to have the beautiful Ashley as my gifter. I absolutely adore the way she always has fun rocking feminine looks so I was more than happy to welcome this mint, lace dress into my closet. I usually gravitate towards neutrals or darker colors, but mint has always secretly been on my wish list. How did she know? I'm not entirely sure. Oh, and can we talk about the wrapping? I almost didn't want to rip it open to it would all stay intact. Thanks a million, Ashley! :)

This year my Secret Santa was none other than the loverly Kristian, who certainly must have known I'm quite the sucker for anything colorful and vintage, because she gifted me the prettiest lemony yellow cardi care of the 1960s.  Better yet, check out the oversized creamsicle plaid pockets on this little darling - yes, they are perfect, just like the snowflake laced wrapping was.  Definitely the most cheerful gift to come home to on a grey winter day.  Thanks bunches Kristian!

I absolutely jumped at the chance to be part of a Secret Santa gift exchange with the lovely ladies of Flock Together! I mean, who could ask for a group of more stylish ladies than the ones above? I was lucky enough to have Lisa as my gifter this year and received not one, but TWO perfect treasures! She sent me this darling brown, polka dot, pussy bow blouse along with a stylish blue and yellow paisley headscarf. What could be more quintessential to my style than those two things I ask you? They even paired wonderfully together as an outfit. I am one lucky lady :) Not to mention the wrapping paper has the cutest penguins on it. Since I am slightly head-over-heels for penguins I'd say it made my day pretty happy. Thanks ever so much Lisa! I even wore the blouse again in this post on my blog too!

Elana of Room 334

Before I even opened the packaged, I was over the moon when I realized that Jenna was my Secret Santa. Granted, I love all of the girls' style and I can't imagine being disappointed by any of them, but still. I always want to steal every single thing Jenna wears, so I knew that she had to pick out something amazing for me, and man, she did not disappoint. I love just about anything striped, but this dress is particularly special. It's just the right amount of sweet, unique, and versatile. I'd be lying if I said that I hadn't already worn this multiple times since I got it not that long ago.

I had so much fun doing Secret Santa last year that I was really looking forward to exchanging gifts this holiday--especially since we had a few new members in the mix. I received this darling and daring dress from the gorgeous Jessi! The sheer panels in the front and back allow me to experiment with layering girly lingerie pieces underneath (I'm wearing a lace bustier from Forever 21 in the photo above). It's hard to tell in the photo, but it also has a cute embossed pattern throughout. I admire Jessi's feminine and relatable style (and her amazing hair!), so I felt lucky to have her as my Santa. Thank you so much, Jessi!
Jessica of Midwest Muse I had Jen as my santa and omigod, is she wonderful or what?! This dress is perfect. The colors are spot on and cozy. Plus she drew little tiny versions of me. I mean, how did I get so lucky? The best part about a Flock Together Secret Santa is that there's no way any of us are ending up with less than perfect dresses.

Style Challenge: NYE

Who doesn't love the glitz and glamour of ringing in the New Years? Here are some of our favorite looks to wear for such an occasion. Stay safe, have fun, and from all of us here on Flock Together, have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Jenna of Smitten

As much as I may not be that into New Years Eve and having crazy exciting plans, I am a big fan of dressing up. At this very moment my new years plans are up in the air, but when thinking about what to wear I know for New Years I want A) something with a bit of glitter and B) something comfortable. This tank has the perfect amount of glitter to it, and I adore the comfort of my maxi skirts while still looking dressed up. Chances are in the great white north it's going to be super cold so my faux fur stole is definitely necessary to provide warmth and a bit of glamour ;)

new years
Ashley of Southern (California) Belle

I'm usually one to get dressed up for New Year's Eve but this year I'll be home waiting for my baby to arrive!  This was my outfit for NYE last year.  I feel like (much like Jenna) sparkle is a definite must for your outfit.  I just paired my most shimmery top with a black skirt and some textured tights.  I also had to add my favorite red wedges for a hint of color.  It was perfect for a dinner out at a swanky speakeasy.  This year I'll be enjoying some sparkling grape juice at the comfort of my home or the hospital :)

Lisa from Lala Faux Bois

New Years is one of my favorite holidays! Every year we go on a trip somewhere with friends, sometimes just a weekend road trip away or sometimes out of state. My favorite way to kick off a new year is on vacation. I love dressing up but I also try to wear comfortable shoes for any possible dance opportunities :) I've actually worn these shoes a couple of times for New Year's eve because they are flat but patent leather and shiny. This year we are heading to Austin to meet up with friends we haven't seen in awhile and I couldn't be more excited!

Just like the other gals, I'm quite the fan of dressing up to ring in the New Year.  I'm pretty sure this year will be spent inside, away from the cold at a party with some of our closest friends, but nonetheless breaking out this full-skirted dress along with my fanciest fascinator and velvety green shoes is definitely in order.  Now bring on the bubbly!

Dus of Cuddly Cacti

This New Year's outfit is more of a hypothetical one for me this year, and is the newest edition to Prickly Pear Vintage. Since we'll be moving to a new state the day after Christmas and likely will not have found a place yet by New Year's Even, I am already preparing to ring in the new year in my PJ's. However, I am loving this Great Gatsby-ish dress as an "in theory" New Year's cocktail party.

There's not much call for an evening dress is Cowboy Country, but I dream of living in a nineteen thirties movie-  one filled with escapism like bias-cut gowns and night clubs. One time wearing such finery is not out of place is the holidays while dancing. I wore this red number for a Christmas Ball last year. Sadly, we missed out on going to any such this year, so I'm determined to bring in the new year while on the dance floor!

I have no idea what I'm doing for New Year's Eve this year!  Like many of the other Flock Together girls, getting all dressed up is high on my list of priorities, and since I already have quite a few NYE-worthy pieces in my closet, I thought I'd compile a few options for what I might wear this year.  I usually opt for a mix of neutrals for this holiday, and then add some sparkle, feathers and faux fur for good measure.  I think I'm leaning towards wearing the gold one, which is an immediate repeat of last year's choice, but since this dress seems to come out only once a year, I guess I'm safe!  Whatever I end up doing -- even if it's just having a quiet dinner at home -- I am determined to look festive!

Erica of Sweets and Hearts
I don't have set plans for New Year's Eve either (I'm such a procrastinator/last minute planner, haha), but I do know that I want to wear this dress! When I think of the perfect NYE outfit, it usually involves sparkle. I don't have a lot of sparkly items in my closet (but I suppose I need some now), but this dress does have a few silver rhinestones on the bodice--just enough, really. I got it a couple of year's ago from Forever 21. It's made out of a frothy pink chiffon and is perfect for dancing in because it moves so nicely! My night will most likely involve a glass of champagne (or two) with a few of my favorite people. I hope you have a wonderful--and stylish--New Year's!

Jen of JennifHsieh

Last year I rang in the New Year all the way over in Istanbul since my boyfriend was teaching abroad in Turkey. Since I knew the weather was going to be freezing outside, I made sure to pack a pair of tights to get me through the night. During the new year I always tend to wear darker colors instead of bright and vibrant shades. Maybe it's because I tend to live in the past and I treat it as a funeral for the prior year? Who knows. This year, I'll be traveling once again with my boyfriend, but to the pacific northwest. Maybe this is the year I go all out and wear the brightest colors I can find?

I'm not sure what my plans are for NYE but they're sure to involve this skirt! Sequins and sparkle everything for me! And a little fur never hurt anyone either ;) Usually I stay in with family and toast the New Year with sparkling cider but this year I'm hoping to find a party to go to so I have an excuse to dress like a disco ball!!
