Blue Collar Crime

Hi there kittens! It's been awhile since I've posted... I've been crazy busy in my little corner of the world working on crocheting for three upcoming Holiday shows. Whew! However, I did finally get a chance to take some pictures with the Mister this past weekend. I had three outfits just sitting around waiting to be styled. I have to say I was particularly thrilled about this one I borrowed from Elana of Room 334.   I just love the shape of these types of dresses..... they always seem highlight my assets and disguise my flaws oh so perfectly. Oh and the collar was an added bonus!

It's still way too hot to wear this fabulous faux leather jacket but I thought it was a nice added touch. 

It's in the high 80's but it definitely seems much cooler than before even though "technically" it's still hot. It makes for a more pleasant photo session than when it's scorching and you're trying so hard not to break a sweat. I can't wait till I can actually bust out this jacket and really wear it around... I'm counting down the days.

If you all haven't noticed yet I got a new hair do. I went to a Salon (which I haven't done in years) and got my hair professionally done. I've always liked the way Ombre' hair looked on other people so I thought "what the hell". I also love the fact that I can now add "fun colors" to the ends if I ever want to... I'm pretty happy about the way it looks and the good news is there's not any up keep I need to do.  I just wanted an "edgier" look and I went out and got it. Yay for me!

Hi there!  I'm really excited to post here today because I'm wearing something completely out of my comfort zone: Pants!  When Hannah let me borrow this super cute top, I was unsure if it would work as a dress or a blouse.  Since it's nowhere near tights weather in California and I'm not one to wear super short dresses, I decided to break out my black jeans for this outfit.  I really liked the outcome, actually.  Maybe if I added more cute tops to my wardrobe I'd consider wearing them more often.  Mayyyyybe.

Stripes!

Hey all! Jana here from Small Town, BIG SMILE! Long time no see! It seems like it's been forever since I've posted over here... and with good reason. August and September were b.u.s.y. months for me! So let's hope this post is a good start to a great autumn-blogging season! In today's post, I'm wearing this great black and white striped dress from Taylor. Funny story: I borrowed this dress thinking it was navy and white striped, and planned on wearing it with red tights! It was actually one of the first dresses I borrowed.  When it arrived, to my surprise, it was black, not navy! I was still tempted to style it with the red tights, but it wouldn't have had the nautical style I was originally intending to sport. Not only that, the week I had this dress, the weather was HOT! So tights just weren't an option. 

Instead of the tights, I opted for some red accessories, and my big floppy hat with black under-lining, turning my original nautical planned outfit into a more classic style. In the end, I loved how the outfit turned out, but I have to admit, if I had it again during the chillier months that are now approaching, I'd love to remix it with some bright tights like Taylor did!

Rainy Day Vintage...

 We actually got some rain in Austin... can you believe it? We've been in a drought for like about seven years now and have been in stage 2 water restrictions since forever! It was such a sweet relief to get a heavy down poor like we did... not only for our little garden but it cooled things off quite a bit. I always love how it smells after it rains... don't you? The Mister and I sat on our screened in porch and watched the lightening and listened to the booming thunder as we sipped on some red wine. It was really fun and quite relaxing. We haven't seen a storm like that since we lived in Ohio years ago. We used to always love to watch storms roll in. We even slept with the window open that night and enjoyed the cool breeze and listened to the frogs croak!

I'm obsessed with these new white rimmed sunnies I bought from Modcloth! I should have bought them at the beggining of Summer but oh well. It's better late than never and I'll be sporting them even in the Winter here in Austin where it's sunny 300 days of the year. Seriously... I read that somewhere.

Let's talk about this adorable vintage dress that I borrowed from the sweet Katie of 

Butterfly loves Snapdragons. Katie is the master of styling vintage clothing... she's got it down to a science. Seriously.... she can do no wrong! I was super stoked the second I saw this little dress and couldn't wait to get the chance to style it. I'm pretty much in love with everything sixties... if you couldn't tell. So white knee socks are my staple... duh, which just so happen to go with my white bobble earrings and new white sunnies! Weeeeeee!

I have a whole collection of cute little umbrella's which I never use. Ha! It's from living in Ohio all those years where it's always overcast and dreary. I'm retty sure my neighbors think I'm cray cray. I'm always in the front yard posing for pictures.... even in the rain.

It's nice to get a break from watering your garden. Since we are under stage 2 restrictions we are only allowed to "hand hold the hose". You can't just turn on a sprinkler and walk away.... you have to stand outside and bake in the hot sun. It's quite fun. Sometimes I have to go outside and spray the poor chickens because they too get overheated. They love to jump through the water and actually play around in it. The Mister and I watched our feathered friends (from the screened in porch) actually stand outside their coop (while the crazy storm was going on) enjoying the rain while getting a good cool off. I don't think they even know what rain is.... they have never fully experienced rain 

(on this scale) before.

I myself enjoy the rain but not too much... I live for the Sun. It's pretty much the main reason we moved to Austin. I couldn't handle those long, drawn out Ohio Winters anymore. I think my brain needs the vitamin D. I do love watching storms with The Mister and the pups though... and I love how it washes everything clean and smells so fresh afterwards.

Oh Hi there! Here I am just wearing another one of Marisa's dresses. You know Marisa... 

of The Shades of The Monet Chronicles. Well, I feel like I've borrowed Marisa's entire wardrobe already... I just love her style! I can't get enough of these baby doll dresses... it's become an obsession of mine. Ha! This is sort of a short post because I'm laking photos... we (The Husbear and I) took a bunch but I didn't like the way most of them turned out. That seems to be happening to me a lot lately.... I just feel "frumpy" or something. 

I think the humid and hot climate of Austin is starting to get to me. It's September and Autumn is upon us and there are Fall clothes being sold everywhere in all the stores yet it's still blazing hot and in the 100's. It's almost impossible to get dressed up and take pictures without melting... it's quite difficult. Austin doesn't even really get a Fall... we just go from scorching hot to cold over night. No beautiful change of colors in the trees... no falling leaves. I'll still take it over an Ohio winter any day though... those were the worst!

I decided to do the black bra and slip thingy under the sheer dress again. I think it ads a bit of "edginess" to the look. So of course I had to wear my black knee socks which are becoming more and more of a staple of mine. It's too much work and way to hot to wear tights so knee socks are the next best thing. I added some white bobble earrings and pale lipstick and "voila".... instant 60's vibe. 

I was wearing this hat at some point in the photo session... but those images ended up on the drawing room floor. Ha! I love this hat though... I bought it many moons ago from Forever 21. I do believe this was my first real hat purchase... now I have a whole slew of them. Addictions are hard to break... what can I say?

Hello, friends! I'm so glad to be back here with y'all. August was a very busy month for our family -- getting the girls back to preschool, getting myself back to teaching preschoolers, ballet, Spanish class for my oldest daughter, etc. etc. Whew! What a month! We're all settling into our new routine, and I have to say, it's a nice change from the spontaneity of summer. I like summer, but the novelty of it does wear off after a couple of months -- for both me and for my girls. You can only do so many crafts and activities so many times before everyone gets bored with it all.

Hello, hello! Katie here. How are you all now that September is officially upon us? I borrowed this fun striped dress from Taylor this summer and apparently was in a very girly mood when I wore it.  A pink hair bow? So cutesy! These photos were also taken shortly before I donated my hair, so it is much longer in these photos than it is now. It is so strange to see that!
I liked the high-lo hem of this dress, but the high part was a little...erm, high. I just added this vintage petticoat and I thought it was a fun way to make this dress a bit more appropriate-it even matched the black and white color scheme!

I absolutely love Taylor's headscarf and adorable (camera?) bag paired with this dress. Such a retro vibe that I am head over heels for! See more of her original post here.
