Purple and Bold

Elana of Room 334

Fun fact: My school's colors are purple are gold. Fun fact #2: I have zero school spirit. So even though purple is my favorite color, I rarely wear it due to the abundance of it that I see on campus every day. I don't really need any help sticking out on campus considering the lack of T-shirts, sweat pants, and North Face in my closet, but I still don't like the idea of blending in with the sea of purple.

However, Dus' purple skirt was too beautiful, too classic, and far too versatile for me to pass up. I've borrowed so many dresses from the Flock Together girls that I liked the idea of borrowing another skirt.  Plus, this one is such a classic shape that it felt like a blank canvas just waiting for some of us to put our own spin on. My spin? Some bold stripes, of course. This top is actually a dress and has been styled by Jessica as well. Talk about versatility in an outfit.

Check out how Dus styled her skirt and how Jessica styled my dress. They both look too cute in their hats.

Easy Breezy

 photo pink_zpsbd9e19c7.jpg
Hey there! It's Jenna from Smitten here today showing off Hannah's gorgeous pink dress. One of my favourite parts of this group is getting to try different things that I perhaps wouldn't before. This dress is so breezy and flowy and has such a unique drap to it unlike anything I have in my closet. I tend to stay close to "fit and flare" silhouettes with a defined waist, but I have to admit going outside my comfort zone was fun!
This dress is so light and perfect for summertime, the colour is gorgeous, and I of course couldn't help pairing it with this studded denim vest. I really love that the vest not only adds a bit of structure but some edge as well! Lot's of layered jewellery and some strappy sandals and I was really happy with how this outfit turned out. It looks like I'm going to need to be adding a piece like this one to my wardrobe soon :)

Sweetness

A very sweet hello to all of you! It's Katie from Butterfly Loves Snapdragons. Are you all enjoying your last warm days of summer? It has been just perfect balmy weather for this little mint lace dress of Jenna's. It is such a dainty little piece and I loved the idea of pairing soft pink with it. I decided to wear it with some green oxfords and a vintage blouse. I am really into wearing socks with all of my vintage shoes now too. I find that not only are they more comfortable that way, but if you find some cute ones with a ruffle, it just adds a bit of sweetness to the outfit without trying to hard!

This dress has gone around to a few of the Flock Together gals! It really is a stunner on everyone and I love how you can see the personalities shining so clearly through the way each of us styled the dress!

spotlisa

This month, we're kickin' off a brand new series of "Reader Spotlights". We will be interviewing and highlighting ladies that inspire us (all of us!) and ladies who understand the art of remixing, vintage, and blogging. We're thrilled for our first one to be Lala Faux Bois. We love her and her style and hope you do too!

Tell us about yourself & where you live.
My name is Lisa of Lala Faux Bois and I'm a graphic designer, cat lover, and vintage obsessed girl, with a severe case of wanderlust. I live in the Phoenix area of AZ, and fled to the desert after growing up in the rain soaked woods of Oregon. I love thrifting and the thrill of the hunt, and try to buy the majority of my clothes 2nd hand. That helps keep my clothing addiction on a budget too.

What's your most worn and remixed piece in your wardrobe?
My most worn piece of clothing is definitely my chartreuse cardigan, as I've decided that color is a neutral and I want to wear it with everything.

How does your style change through the seasons? What's your favorite season to dress for?
Since where I live never gets really cold, I wear a lot of my summer dresses and skirts year round. The cooler temps give me freedom to play with more layers, and of course it's always fun to be able to add more color with tights. I feel more challenged in the summer to personalize my outfits without the ability to add layers, and although that is sometimes fun, winter here is definitely my favorite season to dress for.

Tell us about the outfits you've remixed and what inspired you.
I love to remix dresses because besides wearing it as a dress, you can style them as a skirt or top. Since summer is so hot here, it's good to find new ways to style dresses to avoid getting bored with your summer wardrobe.

This leaf print dress was an Etsy vintage find. In one look I paired it with a cardigan and platform sandals and wore it to work. In the other, it's layered with a vintage top and flats for a more casual look.

The other two outfits are remixes of a polka dot denim dress I recently got at Target for $6. In one version I wore it as a top with a vintage cacti skirt. In the other, I layered a tank over it and added some vintage shoes and accessories.

Why compelled you to start blogging?
After obsessively lurking on craft and style blogs, I decided I wanted one of my own! It's been such a great way to meet people with similar interests and challenge my personal style a little more by posting outfits. My blog started all over the place with my different interests, but over time I started to focus mostly on personal style, thrift finds, and the occasional post about something I did or a vacation. It's still a learning process and I'm sure it will always be evolving.

lisa1

What's your favorite band or song right now?
Such a hard question! My favorite band will always be The Smiths but put on any new wave or electronic music and I will be happy :)

Thanks so much to Lisa for letting us interview her! Be sure to visit her blog and we'll be back next month with another blogger that inspires us to keep swapping and remixing!

Floral Skirt Remix

Abandoned-7
i've come down with the plague (well, not really, but sure feels like it!), so rather than an entirely new outfit to share, I thought I'd show off some of the ways  I and other Flock Together Bloggers have styled one of my favorite skirts! Handmade, and found in a thrift store on vacation, this skirt actually gets far more use than its appearances on blogs may imply. Still, here are three ways I love to wear it:

BlackAndFlower-05

One of the best parts of swapping is the inspiration you get from seeing others wear that skirt or dress you think has exhausted all possibilities...when, lo and behold, in the hands of another the possibilities are endless. I love how both Dus and Katherine styled these and wish I could have found larger photos for you, but click the links to see more!

Style Challenge: Back to School

 photo BULLDOG_zps45c5ec4e.jpg
Jenna of Smitten

I actually am going back to school Sept 3rd, I am super excited, and very nervous as it's a new program I'll be starting at a new institution. The start of a new school year always signals the start of a new season to me, and fall is one of my favourite times to dress for. I decided to pull this colour palette straight from nature with mix of yellow and green that are in the trees right now. This maxi skirt is incredibly comfortable, and it has pockets! Perfect for a day of running around campus if you ask me ;) Anyone who knows me also knows I can't resist a French Bulldog print!

Dus of Cuddly Cacti

This isn't what I'll be wearing to my first day back to school; I attend grad school straight from work on evenings, so I'm usually in more office-y attire. But, it meets all my requirements for a good back to school outfit: comfy and plenty cool for walking around in the heat, comfy shoes of course, and a bit of a "me" touch with a Mexican woven belt from my shop. In fact, it was so cozy that I wore it last weekend and this one again to a Saturday class.

 Katie of Butterfly Loves Snapdragons

Let's just say after working as a teacher and afterschool program coordinator I pretty much have back to school style down to a science. We're still having warm weather now, but pretty soon the air will be crisp and that's when layers become the key for all of us who love fall. My favorite pieces to wear are blazers, scarves, and wedges with socks. That way if it warms up during the day I can shed a layer or two if need be. A versatile, layerable dress, and skinny jeans are fall staples as well. Have fun back to school shopping!

Erica of Sweets and Hearts
Okay, so I already graduated from college a few years ago, but I thought it'd be fun to share a recent outfit that's inspired by school uniforms! It's more of an updated casual version, but it still has that All-American preppy feel to it. I just got this cute cobalt blazer from Ked's new juniors line for Macy's a couple of weeks ago and paired it with a screenprinted tank top, pleated shorts, and boat shoes (details are in my latest blog post).

Though I graduated a few years ago as well, I still thought it would be fun to join in on the back to school style challenge!  My mom was just telling me how her school uniforms growing up were  always blouses with peter pan collars, so I paired one of those with a favorite skirt and two toned oxfords that just scream back to school for me. For those of you who really are starting the school year right now, have a wonderful beginning! Though I sometimes dreaded going back to school since it meant the end of summer, I did always enjoy the feeling of a fresh start!

Taking Heart

Happy Friday everyone!

Marisa here today with a swap that has me black, white, and hearted all over.  One thing I wish I had more of in my wardrobe is little vintage printed blouses like this heart one from Leah.  They are so darn cute and easy to layer, that with Autumn being just around the corner, I must thrift myself some more of these beauties.  Anyhow, I kind of just loved how the heart print looked against the floral embroideries on my little vintage babydoll dress that I knew it was some kind of match made in heaven.

I must note - I am indeed wearing some pretty short shorts underneath this dress as my then pregnant belly made it micro mini length on me - cause you know, I am just not cool with bearing my skivvies to the world.

OUTFIT DETAILS:
Blouse: Swap via Leah
Dress, Bag, Brooch: Vintage
Bracelet: gift from Dus (for sale in her shop here)
Hat: Target
Shoes: Vintage (for sale in my shop here)

How Leah wore it: (I LOVE her mix of prints, don't you?)

One more silly thing: see that cyclist in the background?  Well, he just kind of zoomed by out of nowhere and as he passed he shot a glance my way and said, "You're looking good!".  Eeps Though I wanted to crawl under the nearest rock... I just had to laugh.

Cheers to plenty of laughter and one awesome weekend!

Love Bunches,
Marisa Noelle

Rapid Fire

Hello!  Hannah here from The Braided Bandit bringing you a comfy every day outfit and some pro-tips on how to take really unfortunate and awkward photos for your blog!  So you see, my sweet boyfriend who oftentimes takes my blog pictures for me recently developed his own photography technique I like to call "rapid fire".  Taking blog photos is probably not his favorite thing in the world to do even though he is usually very willing to help (I am sure some of you can relate)! So, his new rapid fire technique is basically where he just snaps a bunch of unposed and unsuspecting pictures of me to get the job done EXTRA quickly.  Though I am a fan of seeing more candid photos of bloggers, I am not a fan of the rapid fire. I didn't know it was possible to capture so many awkward moments and poses within a 45 second time span, but here is the proof that it is indeed possible:

Outfit Details: Top - borrowed from Katie // Jeans - Volcom // Hat - Brixton // Shoes - thrifted

So while I don't love the rapid fire technique, I DO love this striped vintage tee I borrowed from Katie! Instead of going for my my usual more girly ensembles, I decided to pair it with a pair of boyfriend jeans, oxfords, and a boater hat.  Basically, it was a bit more masculine version of the way Katie styled it here.  I adore her heeled oxfords and dainty boater hat!

I also styled Katie's stop with a vintage pinafore while on a camping trip!  You can see the full post here.  Thanks for stopping by and bearing with these really awkward photos of mine, and thanks to Katie for letting me borrow her beautiful striped top!
